Inspired by a piece of old French haberdashery packaging, The Embroidery Thread Box is part of The Little Box Collection, a series of small boxes made one by one in the Pomme de Jour studio.

The wonderfully decorative design comes from vintage French embroidery thread packaging for Coton à Broder Brillanté, À La Croix, Cartier-Bresson Paris. I've reworked the original imagery in shades of pink, keeping the beautiful old typography, borders and tiny details that made the original packaging so appealing.

The box itself is constructed entirely by hand from vintage French card stock. Nothing began life as a ready-made box, from the structure itself to the finished decorative surface, each one is individually made by me.

A lovely little place for keeping threads, buttons, jewellery, ribbons, shells, tiny textile fragments or any of those small things that deserve a box of their own. It is equally lovely simply sitting amongst a collection of old textiles and haberdashery.

Because each box is handmade using vintage card stock, small variations and occasional marks from the original material are part of its character. No two will be completely identical.
