A flower garden found on the wrong side.

I have always been drawn to the reverse of old textiles, to the loose threads, travelling stitches and hidden workings that were never really intended to be seen.

This image began as the reverse of a small vintage floral tapestry. Scanned at a high resolution, the back reveals an unexpectedly beautiful version of the original, the flowers become more softer and more abstract, the vase almost disappears, and the loose threads give the whole images a wonderfully painterly quality.

I loved it so much that I have reproduced it as The Reverse garden, a A4 printable from the Pomme de Jour studio.

Print it simply as a small piece of wall art, or use ir creatively for collage, altered books, journal covers, box decoration and other paper projects. I have used my own print to decorate an old box, the the crisp paper and unruly stitches work beautifully against the worn cardboard.
