A Lost Summer, Original British Seaside Photograph, c.1930s–40s

Three women sit together in traditional canvas deckchairs, surrounded by a wonderfully crowded beach scene. Behind them are holidaymakers, children, rows of deckchairs and the unmistakable bustle of an old-fashioned British seaside resort.

It is the incidental details that make photographs like this so appealing, the clothes, shoes, hairstyles, deckchairs and people going about their day in the background. A lovely piece of social history as well as a charming found photograph.

The photograph has been printed onto postcard stock, with the original divided postcard back still visible.

There is considerable surface wear and deterioration, particularly across the upper portion of the image, together with scratches, marks and general age-related wear. I think this actually gives it a rather wonderful timeworn character, but the condition is reflected in the price.
