Antique French Floral Fabric Boudoir Box, c.1900-1920

Antique French Floral Fabric Boudoir Box, c.1900-1920
A beautiful early 20th-century French boudoir box, completely covered in its original softly faded floral fabric and finished with wonderfully aged metallic braid.
The delicate print is particularly lovely, with baskets of blue roses, tiny scattered flowers, trailing garlands and pink ribbon bows against a faded blue-grey and cream ground. The years have softened the colours beautifully, giving the box the wonderfully timeworn appearance that is so difficult to reproduce.
Inside, the box is lined in pale blue fabric with a subtle woven floral design. There are marks, fading and small areas of wear throughout, including a small hole to the fabric on the lid and some wear and losses to the edging. The interior also shows age-related marks and a couple of small areas of surface loss. Please look carefully through the photographs as these form an important part of the description.
I have left the box exactly as found rather than attempting to clean or restore the fabric.
Originally intended as a decorative storage or dressing-table box, today it would be beautiful for keeping old letters, ribbons, jewellery, sewing notions or other small treasures. It is also simply lovely displayed as part of a collection of antique textiles and faded floral pieces.
General age-related wear consistent with age, including gentle fading and discolouration, wear to the edges and some looseness and losses to the original trim.
