Vintage French MFTA “Pastorale” Toile Furnishing Fabric

Vintage French MFTA “Pastorale” Toile Furnishing Fabric
A wonderful length of vintage French furnishing cotton fabric by MFTA, Manufacture Française des Textiles d'Ameublement, with the design name “Pastorale” printed along the original selvedge.
Printed in a beautifully muted dusty rose on a warm cream ground, the design is filled with wonderfully detailed pastoral scenes. Look closely and there are cottages, figures gathering flowers and fruit, a couple on horseback, children, goats, turkeys, ducks, herons, trees and waterways, all arranged across the cloth like a series of tiny illustrations.
It has that wonderful French toile quality without feeling overly formal. The soft colouring and extraordinary amount of detail make it a particularly decorative textile.
This is a very generous piece at 148 x 268 cm, with an additional 20 cm deep hem at one end. If the hem were released, there would potentially be additional usable length, although I would leave that decision to its new owner.
A fabulous piece for curtains, a blind, cushions, upholstery, a bed canopy or other interior project, and equally lovely simply kept as a large piece of vintage French textile.
The fabric is in vintage condition and has been previously used. Please expect the small signs of age and use associated with an older furnishing textile and study the photographs carefully.
