A beautiful length of antique French furnishing fabric with the most delicate faded palette of powder blue, soft pink, warm brown and cream.

The design is particularly lovely, combining trailing flowers, tiny scattered sprigs and fluttering ribbons with narrow architectural stripes and braided motifs. It has that wonderfully restrained French decorative quality, elaborate in detail yet incredibly soft when seen as a whole.

I would date this to around the late 19th to very early 20th century, approximately 1890–1910. The muted colouring, naturalistic flowers, ribbon ornament and striped arrangement are all characteristic of furnishing textiles influenced by earlier 18th-century French designs. The close-up photographs also show the age and character of the woven ground beautifully.

A generous surviving length at 284 cm, making it particularly appealing for interiors and textile collectors.

It would be wonderful used for a long decorative cushion, a small blind, lampshades, cabinet or cupboard panels, framed textile panels, upholstery details or simply kept as an increasingly difficult-to-find length of antique French fabric.

Condition:

In lovely antique condition overall, with gentle age-related wear and some faint marks consistent with its age and previous use.
