Antique Victorian Cabinet Photograph, 1874 | Faded W. Vick Ipswich Portrait

Antique Victorian Cabinet Photograph, 1874 | Faded W. Vick Ipswich Portrait
A beautifully faded Victorian portrait photograph, dated 1874, with the sitter now appearing almost ghost-like against the surface of the card.
Photographed by W. Vick of Ipswich, the image has softened and faded considerably with age, leaving just the suggestion of a young woman in Victorian dress. There is something particularly lovely about photographs that have reached this stage, where time has become almost as much a part of the image as the original sitter.
The reverse carries the photographer's printed studio details.
An original piece of Victorian photographic ephemera, now over 150 years old, with all the marks, fading, foxing and surface wear accumulated during its long life.
Wonderful simply kept as a found photograph, but particularly suited to creative use. It could be scanned and incorporated into mixed-media work, collage, altered books, journalling, assemblage or other paper projects, while preserving the original photograph.
