These portraits were once kept in albums or tucked in drawers – intimate, often unsigned, and softly coloured by hand.

About the Collection’s Muse

I found her at a market, framed beside a photograph of her husband.

I didn’t have the funds for both, and though it felt sad to separate them, there was something about her gaze, soft, composed, quietly luminous, that stayed with me.

She became the muse for Softly She Looks.

While her portrait isn’t part of the sets, she guided the tone and palette: soft florals, faded ribbon, gentle pinks and sepia browns.

This collection is a tribute to her and the many unnamed women whose images once rested on mantelpieces and dresser tops.
