Antique bird button brooch, handmade from a decorative metal button

Antique bird button brooch, handmade from a decorative metal button
Created from an antique decorative metal button, this handmade brooch features a beautifully raised swallow set against an ornate scrolling background. The button has developed a soft aged patina over many decades, with gentle wear that adds to its character and originality.
Once a decorative clothing button, this beautifully detailed antique piece has been thoughtfully transformed into a wearable brooch, allowing its history to continue in a form. A modern brooch fitting has been securely added to the reverse, making it easy to wear ion a line jacket, scarf, or favourite bag.
The original button is believed to date from the late 19th to early 2th century, around 1890 to 1925, although an exact date cannot be confirmed. Decorative metal buttons of this quality were often used to embellish jackets and tailored garments, valued as much for their artistry as their practicality.
The swallow has long symbolised hope, safe journeys and returning home, making this a thoughtful gift or meaningful addition to a collection of antique buttons, birds or wearable like curiosities.
