Exceptional 1960's Souleiado Fabric – 7.14m Rare Floral, Non-Cotton, Collectors Piece
This is an extraordinarily rare Souleiado fabric from the 1960’s—unlike anything I’ve found before. Light, soft, and finely woven, it carries a delicate geometric floral print in warm Provençal tones. Measuring over 7 metres in length, this is more than yardage, it’s a rare archival piece from one of France’s most iconic textile houses.
The original Souleiado label was stapled to one end when I acquired it (now lost), confirming its provenance. The stapling suggests this was part of a non-standard production run, likely created for in-house fashion use or boutique supply. The base is not cotton, possibly a very lightweight wool or wool blend, and feels dry and soft, with an elegant drape and subtle structure. A burn test produced a papery smell but no brittleness beyond the burned edge. The fabric is otherwise intact, clean, and stable.
There are approximately 10 small holes scattered across the full length, likely from age or storage. These are minor given the scale and do not detract from its potential as a collector’s bolt, pattern archive, or lined garment material.
Measurements:
Width: 35.5 inches (approx. 90 cm)
Length: 7.14 metres (714 cm)
Condition:
Good vintage condition with scattered small holes (see photos).
Structurally sound and colour-true. Label was lost, but its original stapling is noted.
Care:
Due to age and fibre sensitivity, dry clean only. Avoid water, heat, and agitation. Store folded in acid-free paper if collecting.
