A wonderfully decorative vintage Waverley writing set, still remarkably complete inside its original large presentation box.

The box itself is beautiful, covered with a richly coloured Chinoiserie-style garden scene filled with flowers, figures, palms, pagodas and parasols, and finished with a soft blue tassel. Inside is an extensive collection of pale blue writing paper and matching envelopes, together with charming illustrated notelets depicting women in traditional Japanese dress.

The notelets are particularly lovely. One design shows a woman carrying a child beneath a large flowered parasol, while another depicts two elegantly dressed women beneath a parasol. Their softly printed pinks, blues, greens and yellows work beautifully with the powder-blue stationery.

30 sheets of writing paper
9 of the original 10 illustrated notelets
37 of the original 40 envelopes

The stationery is tied in bundles with blue ribbon and remains beautifully presented within its original fitted box.

A lovely survivor from an era when correspondence was made to feel rather special. Wonderful to keep and use, display on a desk or dressing table, or simply preserve as a decorative vintage stationery set.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition overall and remarkably complete. One of the original ten notelets and three of the forty envelopes are missing. There are occasional small age-related marks to the stationery and ribbons. The presentation box has a split to one corner and general light wear consistent with age and storage. The contents nevertheless remain beautifully presented. Please study the photographs, which form part of the description.
