A wonderfully characterful little pottery pig, full of personality and beautifully imperfect.

Hand-modelled in a coarse, heavily speckled clay, he has a wonderfully primitive form with large pointed ears, a raised snout, tiny incised eyes and chunky little feet. The surface is left largely unglazed, allowing all the warm earthy browns, firing marks and texture of the clay to remain visible.

He is hollow inside, with an open base, and you can see the marks of the maker's hands throughout. There also appears to be an impressed mark or initial close to the base, although I haven't been able to identify the potter.

This is very much the sort of piece that doesn't need to be perfect. The slightly wonky modelling and wonderfully expressive face are exactly what give him his charm.

A lovely piece of folk-inspired studio pottery for a shelf, amongst a collection of ceramics, or simply sitting somewhere he can quietly make you smile.

Condition

Vintage condition with the irregularities expected of a hand-modelled piece. There are variations in the surface, firing marks, small pits and imperfections throughout. The open underside and impressed mark are shown in the photographs.
