Jeanne d’arc illustrated french book | sigismond olesiewicz (Copy)
A visually extraordinary French illustrated edition of Jeanne d’Arc, filled with richly coloured medieval-inspired artwork, decorative borders, heraldic imagery, woodland scenes, saints, animals, and illuminated-style typography throughout.
Published by Éditions Duchartre & Van Buggenhoudt, Paris, this edition was illustrated by Sigismond Olesiewicz in the spirit of fifteenth-century manuscripts and early printed books. The artwork blends Art Deco sensibilities with medieval revival illustration, giving the entire volume the feeling of an illuminated chronicle or folk tale brought to life in colour.
This is very much a “Perfectly Imperfect” copy. It shows visible signs of age and handling throughout, including foxing, edge wear, spine separation, pencil and crayon marks, and areas of staining and rubbing to the boards. Some pages also carry red pencil annotations or marks. Despite this, the illustrations remain vibrant and deeply decorative, and the book retains enormous visual and artistic appeal.
The imperfections honestly add to its atmosphere, it feels discovered rather than preserved, with the kind of layered history that suits artists, collectors, set designers, medieval enthusiasts, and lovers of antique-style illustration.
A wonderful reference piece for:
medieval illustration lovers
