A wonderfully illustrated vintage Fairy Tale Families card game by Piatnik of Vienna, featuring characters and scenes from Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

The cards are particularly lovely, each illustrated in rich colour with familiar stories including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, The Travelling Musicians and others. Small character symbols in the corners identify the different fairy tale families, while snippets from the stories appear beneath the illustrations.

Made in Austria by Piatnik, Vienna, and distributed in Britain by Benno Products, London. The original box is numbered No. 285.

The pack is complete, making this a particularly nice survivor. The cards remain wonderfully bright and would be lovely kept together as a collectible game, or simply enjoyed for their charming storybook illustrations.

The original box has considerable age-related wear, rubbing, marks and losses, particularly around the edges and corners, all visible in the photographs. The cards themselves show some gentle signs of age and handling but have survived remarkably well, with their colours still beautifully vivid.

A delightful piece of vintage childhood ephemera for collectors of old games, fairy tales, children’s illustration and Grimm’s stories.
