Antique Cumberland Butter jar - Millers of Kendal

Antique Cumberland Butter jar - Millers of Kendal

£45.00

A rare survivor of the the British kitchen shelf, this antique advertising crock once held Cumberland brandy flavoured butter, made by Millers of Kendal. With its thick stoneware walls, elegant cylindrical shape and crisp black transfer print, it’s a fine example of late 19th- to early 20th-century domestic packaging.

The glaze has aged beautifully, with fine all-over character. These jars were designed to be reusable - part of a slower, more intentional rhythm of making and keeping - and they now make lovely additions to curated shelves, vintage larders, or even as brush pots in a creative studio.

Circa 1890’s-1910’s

Very good antique condition. The glaze has a beautiful uniform crazing. No chips or cracks. Base unmarked but shows typical age wear. Clean interior with gentle age marks. A timeless piece.

Height: 9.5 cm [3.7”] Diameter: 7.5 cm [2.9”]

Highly collectable and increasingly hard to find, especially in this clean and intact condition. Ideal for rustic pantry styling or collectors of antique British ceramics.

Bring a little piece of Cumberland culinary history into your home with beautifully preserved butter crock.
