A rare and beautiful vintage bordure d'étagère or dessus de cheminée, dating from circa 1920’s to 1940’s. Made from natural linen with classic blue and red ticking stripes, this piece was traditionally used to decorate shelves or the edge of a chimney breast.

It features a charming scalloped hem with hand-stitched red dots and a deep blue embroidered edging. The top has a cotton tape header with yellow metal hooks still attached for hanging.

This is an exceptionally rare survivor, with gentle timeworn fading that only adds to its charm. I have never come across another quite like it.
