A small found tin, reworked in the studio using an image discovered amongst old ephemera and brought back to life through scanning and print.

The portrait of a young woman has been reproduced in soft, faded mauve tones and applied to the lid of the original vintage metal tin. I particularly love the slightly melancholy quality of the image — all curls, lace and draped fabric — and the way it sits against the dark, time-worn metal.

The tin itself has been left very much as found. The reverse and interior retain their scratches, rubbing, marks and areas of surface wear, giving each piece the feeling of something that has already had another life.

Use it for little collections, jewellery, buttons, ribbons, scraps of lace or simply as a small decorative object.

Part of my Studio Made collection, where found vintage objects and fragments are reworked rather than restored, bringing together old materials, forgotten imagery and traces of their previous lives.

Condition:
The vintage tin has considerable age-related surface wear, scratches, marks and rubbing, particularly to the interior and reverse. These are deliberately retained as part of the piece. The applied image may also show the small irregularities associated with being made by hand. Please see all photographs.
