1920s–1930s Children's & Decorative Card Stencils | Set of 8

1920s–1930s Children's & Decorative Card Stencils | Set of 8
A rather lovely collection of eight old card stencils, believed to date from the 1920s or 1930s, with charming cut-out illustrations of children, birds, flowers and decorative motifs.
The children's designs are particularly appealing, with their little dresses, bobbed hairstyles and simple silhouettes so reminiscent of the illustrations found in children's books and craft materials of the period.
Made from sturdy card, most have a wonderful faded terracotta-red colour, while others are lighter, with traces of old paint still visible around the cut-outs. They were probably intended for stencil painting or decorative craft work, possibly produced by Reeves or a similar British manufacturer, although the maker is unconfirmed.
I particularly like them as objects in their own right. Their shapes, worn surfaces and traces of past use would make them lovely additions to an artist's collection, framed individually or incorporated into mixed-media work and assemblages.
The collection includes:
2 large stencils measuring approximately 22 × 15 cm
6 smaller stencils measuring approximately 14 × 9 cm
Condition: These are old, well-used card stencils with surface wear, discolouration, paint marks, softened corners and some damaged or fragile cut-out sections. Please study the photographs carefully.
Sold together as a collection of eight.
