Early 1800s French Silk Embroidery in Gilt Frame, Floral Basket, Georgian Textile Art

Early 1800s French Silk Embroidery in Gilt Frame, Floral Basket, Georgian Textile Art
A delicate French silk embroidery from the early 1800s, worked in soft pastel threads on a pale silk ground. The design shows a brimming floral basket with finely stitched leaves and blossoms, raised stitches giving gentle relief and depth.
Presented in a gilt beaded wooden frame without glass, the embroidery sits open to the air so the texture of the stitching can be appreciated directly. The frame itself is softly timeworn, with a rich patina that complements the age of the piece. The reverse retains its original blotting-paper backing, a reassuring sign of history and care.
The silk ground shows fading and foxing, and the embroidery has lifted from the mount on three sides, still secure on one edge. These age-worn details do not detract but rather underscore its authenticity as a 200-year-old textile.
A rare survival of Georgian-era craftsmanship, atmospheric and romantic, perfect as a display piece within a gallery wall, cabinet of curiosities, or as a standalone textile treasure.
