French antique indigo linen Biaude, totally hand stitched, a real work of art. This smock was intended as an over garment and would have worn by farmers over their clothes on special occasions and at horse fairs and markets. This can be worn by both men and women.

There are two side openings for access to pockets that would have been worn under this shirt and an inner pocket and a mother of pearl button. There is intricate pleating around the collar with white stitches. Large and roomy fit. Dates from around the 1880s and is in a fantastic condition. There is a teeny hole under the right armpit otherwise wonderful for its considerable age.
